Local 828 was granted its charter in 1998, and now represents over 100 highly skilled craftspeople and artists across Ontario.
We are comprised of Prop Builders, Buyers, Scenic Artists, and Painters, who live and work in the Golden Horseshoe of Niagara, Hamilton, and Toronto. Our membership has an exceptionally broad range of skills ready to meet the needs of the live entertainment and display industries.
Since our initial, successful negotiations with three shops, we are now proud to represent our members in 12 shops where we have collective agreements.
In the years since we formed, we have worked on hundreds of productions in theatre, ballet, opera, and film, as well as on product demonstration, industrial shows, and themed environments. Whether it is a small exhibit with a limited budget, or a major theatrical production with large demands, we are committed to creating the finest product possible.
Local 828 is a non-seniority-based Local. We are, instead, based on a structure similar to that of an arts guild, allowing us to match our members' individual talents with the requirements of the job.
The I.A.T.S.E. is the labour union representing technicians, artisans, and craftspeople in the entertainment industry, including live theatre, motion picture and television production, and trade shows.
Providing services to its members since 1893, The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Moving Picture Technicians, Artists and Allied Crafts of the United States, its Territories and Canada (I.A.T.S.E.) now serves over 130,000 members across North America.
